NASA, International Partners Advance Work on Space Crops

NASA, the Canadian Space Agency, and the German Aerospace Center have signed a joint statement to begin coordinated work on a Lunar Agriculture Module-Ground Test Demonstrator. This project aims to develop technologies for growing space crops and studying their performance in controlled environments similar to those expected during missions at Moon Base. The goal is to provide astronauts with whole-food nutrition, increase dietary variety, and support an enduring human presence near the Moon's South Pole. This work will also advance science and technology, preparing for future human missions to Mars.
