NASA to Preview Upcoming ISS Solar Array Spacewalks 100 and 101
WHY IT MATTERS
The new arrays increase the ISS’s power capacity, enabling more experiments and ensuring safe deorbit, extending the station’s operational life.
What happened
NASA will hold a news conference on Oct. 20 to preview two spacewalks that will install the seventh and eighth roll‑out solar arrays on the International Space Station, boosting power by up to 30 % to about 215 kW. Astronauts Anil Menon and Joshua Kutryk will conduct the 285th and 286th spacewalks on Oct.
29 and Nov. 5, respectively, adding power for critical operations and future deorbit.
The conference will be streamed live; media can attend in person or by phone with deadlines. NASA will provide further details closer to the events.
