New Zealand to Reward GP Clinics Delivering Results with Extra Funding

New Zealand's Health Minister Simeon Brown announced that GP clinics will receive extra funding for achieving targets in immunization, cervical screening, and smoking cessation. The funding is part of the 2026/27 general practice package, which 86% of GP clinics voted to accept. Clinics will be funded when they meet targets or make progress towards them. The targets include 90% of enrolled children fully immunized at eight months and 24 months, 80% of enrolled women up to date with cervical screening, and 25% of current smokers offered support to quit. Health New Zealand will track additional measures such as enrolment rates, workforce capacity, and patient experience, but these will not be linked to funding this year.
