Yemen Displacement Reaches 184,000 Amid Ongoing Conflict
WHY IT MATTERS
The ongoing conflict in Yemen has severe humanitarian consequences, with civilians and displaced individuals in need of urgent assistance. The international community must ensure safe and unimpeded access to aid these families and communities.
What happened
Intense fighting in Yemen has displaced over 184,000 people between 1 August and 4 October, with the majority displaced since September, according to the International Organization for Migration's Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM). The DTM recorded 21,798 individuals displaced in the week between 27 September and 3 October, representing a 26 per cent increase on the previous week.
Displaced individuals are in need of food, shelter, and basic humanitarian assistance. A rapid protection assessment found that the lack of safe shelter remains the most critical vulnerability factor, with some households sleeping in the open and exposed to violence and airstrikes.
IOM teams are working with local authorities and humanitarian partners to provide emergency shelter, essential items, and protection services to newly displaced families.
