New Tool Links Carbon Emissions to Environmental and Economic Damage

A new tool, the Carbon Impacts Tracer, has been developed to estimate the climate impact of carbon emissions across eight different factors, including lost food production. The tool translates emissions from burning fossil fuels into estimated real-world climate effects, providing a clearer understanding of the consequences of carbon emissions. For example, the HVO mine in New South Wales, which would emit 809m tonnes of climate-warming carbon dioxide, could expose almost half a million people to unprecedented heat and kill nearly 15 million coral colonies on the Great Barrier Reef every time it bleaches.
