New Zealand Extends 70‑Man Deployment to Support Ukraine Until 2028

New Zealand has extended its Operation Tīeke, sending up to 70 Defence Force personnel to Europe until 30 June 2028. The troops will train Ukrainian forces in Poland under a multinational effort led by Norway, focusing on electronic warfare and drone operations. In addition, the NZDF will provide intelligence, liaison and logistics support across the region. Foreign Minister Winston Peters said the country’s condemnation of Russia’s aggression remains unchanged and that New Zealand will continue to aid Ukraine’s self‑defence. Defence Minister Paul Goldsmith highlighted the strategic importance of the training for Ukraine’s resilience and for broader European and Indo‑Pacific security. The extension signals New Zealand’s ongoing commitment to the international community’s efforts against Russian aggression.
