NFL Defends Eagles’ Care of Jalen Hurts’ Blood Clot, NFLPA Calls for Investigation
WHY IT MATTERS
The dispute highlights the NFL’s responsibility to protect player health and the need for clear, independent reviews of medical decisions affecting athletes.
What happened
During the NFL’s fall league meeting, the league’s chief medical officer, Dr. Allen Sills, and executive vice president Jeff Miller stated they were satisfied with how the Philadelphia Eagles handled quarterback Jalen Hurts’ blood‑clot diagnosis and treatment, citing conservative, patient‑focused care and state‑of‑the‑art imaging performed in London.
Hurts was ruled out of Sunday’s game “out of an abundance of caution.” However, the NFL Players Association released a statement saying the league had not conducted a review of Hurts’ medical care and that no investigation had taken place.
The union urged the NFL to perform a full investigation before drawing conclusions, emphasizing the importance of player safety and transparency.
