Delhi Bans Non‑BS‑VI Vehicles From Outside City, Launches Winter Air‑Quality Measures
WHY IT MATTERS
The ban and stricter enforcement are designed to reduce Delhi’s severe winter air‑pollution levels, safeguarding residents’ health and improving overall environmental quality.
What happened
Starting November 1, Delhi will prohibit entry of vehicles below BS‑VI standards from outside the capital as part of a comprehensive winter action plan aimed at cutting air pollution. The government will also enforce a ‘No PUC, No Fuel’ rule at fuel stations, ensuring only vehicles with valid Pollution Under Control certificates can refuel.
Construction activity will be restricted to curb dust emissions, and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi will intensify inspections at pollution hotspots and construction sites to enforce compliance.
These steps target the city’s worsening winter smog and aim to protect public health and improve air quality.
