Northern Metropolis Data Hub to Commence Phased Operations in Mid‑2027, CLP Power Confirms

A planned supercomputing hub at Hong Kong’s Northern Metropolis megadevelopment will begin phased operations in mid‑2027, earlier than the original schedule. Electricity supplier CLP Power announced that its grid can supply the energy required for three to four supercomputing centres comparable in scale to the Sandy Ridge data facility cluster over the next decade. CLP Power also joined Range Technology to announce its objective to support the new data hub, signalling a partnership aimed at meeting the high‑power demands of the facility. The Northern Metropolis project is part of Hong Kong’s broader strategy to expand high‑tech infrastructure along its border region, positioning the city as a key player in the Asia‑Pacific data economy.
