Norway Provides NOK 750 Million for Reconstruction and Public Services in Ukraine
WHY IT MATTERS
This contribution is crucial for maintaining basic societal functions in Ukraine, which is essential for the country's ability to prevail in the face of ongoing Russian attacks.
What happened
The Government of Norway has announced a contribution of NOK 750 million to the World Bank's Special Program for Ukraine (SPUR). This funding will be used to keep Ukrainian society functioning, including salaries for public-sector employees, social benefits, and the reconstruction of infrastructure.
The Norwegian contribution will unlock an additional three times that amount in loans to Ukraine, generating more than NOK 2 billion in additional financing. The funds will be channeled through the World Bank's SPUR, which mobilizes approximately three times as much in loans to Ukraine as contributions received.
Norway's contribution was announced by Minister of International Development, Åsmund Aukrust, at the World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok.
