NASA Earth Observatory Launches October 2026 Satellite Puzzler
WHY IT MATTERS
It engages the public in Earth observation science, fostering curiosity and learning about satellite imagery and global geography.
What happened
NASA’s Earth Observatory has released its October 2026 satellite puzzler, inviting the public to identify the location shown in a satellite image. The challenge encourages participants to examine clues, speculate on the area’s uniqueness, and optionally provide technical details such as the satellite, instrument, spectral bands, or geological features.
Respondents submit answers via a form, selecting “Puzzler Answer” as the topic and including a preferred name or alias. While no monetary prize is offered, the Observatory promises bragging rights and will highlight the first correct guess, as well as particularly thoughtful responses.
A week after the challenge, the correct answer and an explanatory Earth Observatory story will be posted.
