Kai Tak Hospital Begins Phased Opening with Family Medicine Centre
WHY IT MATTERS
The opening of Kai Tak Hospital will relieve pressure on existing hospitals, expand access to primary and specialist care, and improve health service delivery across Hong Kong.
What happened
Hong Kong health authorities have begun the phased opening of the city’s largest public hospital, Kai Tak Hospital, by launching its family medicine integrated centre on Monday. To support patients amid booking and transport questions, the authorities are deploying on‑site staff and a dedicated hotline.
Specialist outpatient services are slated to start in late October, followed by the introduction of automated blood‑taking facilities. Dr Eric Cheung Fuk‑chi, a senior health official, has overseen the rollout.
The phased approach aims to ease the transition for patients and staff while ensuring that the new hospital’s services are fully operational before it reaches full capacity.
