Palestinian Children Face Uncertain School Year as Gaza and West Bank Schools Remain Closed

Palestinian children are set to begin the 2026‑2027 academic year amid widespread uncertainty. In Gaza, formal schooling has been unavailable for a third consecutive year, deepening an unprecedented learning and protection crisis. Across the West Bank and East Jerusalem, violence, movement restrictions, school closures and fiscal pressures have interrupted attendance and disrupted learning. The Education Cluster reports that safe, continuous education remains out of reach for many. The situation threatens to erode years of progress in education and expose children to ongoing risks. International and local actors are urged to take urgent action to protect education, preserve system continuity, and ensure safe, inclusive, and meaningful learning environments.
