Gaza Health System Still Under Attack a Year After Ceasefire
WHY IT MATTERS
The sustained attacks and blockade prevent essential medical care, leaving Gaza’s population vulnerable and undermining any claim of a ceasefire.
What happened
Nearly a year after the Gaza ceasefire announced on 10 October 2025, Israeli forces continue to kill and injure Palestinians, with the Palestinian Ministry of Health reporting over 1,400 deaths and more than 5,000 injuries. The Israeli blockade has left Gaza’s hospitals unable to secure essential medicines, fuel and supplies.
The World Health Organization recorded 56 attacks on healthcare facilities between January and August 2026, killing 10 people and injuring 49, leaving only 35 of 57 hospitals partially functional. The “Yellow Line” has advanced beyond its original position, now controlling about 70 % of Gaza and forcing more than two million residents into confined areas.
Medical Aid for Palestinians staff have documented displacement, loss of homes, and ongoing fear of military fire near the line. The continued violence and restricted aid hinder any recovery of Gaza’s health system and the safety of its population.
