UN Aid Throughput Declines in Gaza Amid Operational Challenges, September 2026
WHY IT MATTERS
The slowdown in aid flows and limited storage capacity directly affect the delivery of essential supplies to Gaza’s population, highlighting the need for improved logistics and coordination.
What happened
In September, UN and international NGO aid shipments to Gaza fell 44% from the 2026 Q2 average, with 2,044 trucks recorded for the month. Of those, 1,460 (72%) were successfully offloaded, largely through Ashdod (35%), Egypt (25%) and Jordan (24%). The Egypt corridor suffered a 58% return or cancellation rate, compounded by new cargo‑scanning rules that reduced handling capacity.
Scanner failures at Ashdod halted processing from September 9‑22, lowering daily throughput. Jordan’s Sheikh Hussein Bridge operated Sunday‑Thursday at 15 trucks per day, while King Hussein Bridge handled up to 60 trucks on a single day each week. Dual‑use cargo was allowed only one day per week, crossing Gaza five times in total.
The Logistics Cluster reported 16,160 m² of temporary storage and surveyed 125 warehouses, 112 of which remain operational. Separate market assessments in Jordan and Israel are shaping the 2027 operational concept.
