Gaza Situation Remains Fragile, Says UN Special Coordinator
WHY IT MATTERS
The situation in Gaza remains a pressing concern, with the international community's inaction risking hardening the status quo into a permanent reality. The humanitarian crisis demands immediate attention and action to ensure the well-being of the Palestinian people.
What happened
The occupied Palestinian territory continues to face a fragile situation, according to the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process. The area has seen 1,500 Palestinian fatalities, including over 320 children and 140 women, since the ceasefire came into effect. Many families live in constant fear, with women reporting not having experienced 40 consecutive minutes without shooting over their land in a year.
The absence of privacy and safe living conditions leaves women and girls exposed to protection risks. An estimated 950,000 people are living in areas with medium or high risk of flooding, and over 4,000 buildings are at risk of collapse.
Humanitarian access must be expanded and predictable, and restrictions on essential items must be lifted. The international community must take concrete action to ensure a future of security and dignity for both Palestinians and Israelis.
