Escalating Conflict in Yemen Displaces Over 80,000 People

Fighting between Ansar Allah and the Internationally Recognized Government on Yemen's west coast has led to the displacement of over 80,000 people since earlier this month. The International Rescue Committee (IRC) reports that families are fleeing multiple times, with many leaving behind their belongings, livestock, and livelihoods. Schools are being converted into shelters, suspending children's education indefinitely. The IRC calls for protection of civilians and sustained funding for the emergency response. Displaced families are facing heightened risks, including disrupted access to services, support, and protection. Women, children, and people with disabilities are particularly vulnerable. Humanitarian organizations are stretched thin, and funding has not kept pace with growing needs. The IRC is expanding its response to the crisis, including cash assistance for displaced families and mobile health teams to check on people's safety and refer them to further support.
