Cyprus and Egypt Deepen Defence Ties in Bilateral Talks
WHY IT MATTERS
The talks signal a concrete step toward a more integrated defence partnership between Cyprus and Egypt, potentially expanding joint training, intelligence sharing and coordinated responses to regional security challenges.
What happened
During a visit to Egypt for a trilateral defence ministers’ meeting with Greece, Cyprus Defence Minister Vasilis Palmas met President Abdel Fattah al‑Sisi to discuss strengthening bilateral defence and security cooperation. The meeting, held on Tuesday morning, followed the three‑country framework that has already established regular defence coordination among Cyprus, Greece and Egypt.
Palmas underscored Cyprus’s commitment to deepening its close relations with Egypt, noting the growing strategic dimension of their partnership in defence and security.
The dialogue reaffirmed the importance of a robust, two‑way collaboration that complements the existing trilateral arrangements and aims to enhance regional stability through coordinated military and security initiatives.
