Chilean Journalist Patricio Segura Dies at 54, Leaving Legacy in Patagonia River Defense

Patricio Segura, a 54-year-old journalist from Chile, has passed away due to hantavirus. Segura was a key figure in the fight against five dams on the Baker and Pascua rivers in Patagonia. He worked tirelessly to educate residents and prepare them to argue against the dams, ultimately leading to their cancellation. Segura was also a prominent organizer of local opposition through the Corporación Privada para el Desarrollo de Aysén, or CODESA, and worked on communications for Patagonia Sin Represas. His reporting appeared in local and national publications, including Patagon Journal, where he contributed investigations and columns for 15 years.
