Cyprus Pension Reform Talks Continue Amid Optimism
WHY IT MATTERS
The pension reform is crucial for Cyprus, as it aims to improve pension benefits and address concerns about low pensions, with a proposed 34% increase for low-income earners and 11% for medium-income earners.
What happened
Cyprus Labour Minister Marinos Mousiouttas expressed optimism about the country's pension reform bill, which is expected to be delivered to social partners on Friday. The bill aims to introduce reforms by January 1, 2027, and discussions have been held in a positive climate.
The minister noted that the Cyprus chamber of commerce and industry has already submitted its positions, and the employers' union is expected to do so shortly. All positions must be submitted in writing by October 20.
The labour advisory body will meet again before the end of October to discuss the positions submitted by the social partners.
