Sudan's BOOST Project Aims to Boost Food Production and Resilience
WHY IT MATTERS
The BOOST Project's success is crucial for Sudan's food security and rural livelihoods, as it aims to increase crop productivity, reduce post-harvest losses, and improve household food security in Blue Nile and Sennar States.
What happened
The Boosting Agrifood Systems Resilience in Sudan (BOOST) Project, funded by the African Development Bank, aims to increase food production and availability in Blue Nile and Sennar States. The project will improve agricultural productivity, strengthen food systems resilience, and enhance rural livelihoods through quality seeds and fertilizers, climate-resilient practices, and capacity building.
A Pest and Vector Management Plan has been prepared to ensure environmentally sound, socially responsible, and economically sustainable agricultural activities. The plan addresses major pest challenges, including stem borers, aphids, and Fall Armyworm, and aims to reduce post-harvest losses and improve household food security.
The project will also strengthen institutional capacity, improve farmer awareness, and promote responsible pesticide use.
