Cyprus Cabinet to Review Revised Irrigation Water Allocation Plan

Agriculture Minister Christos Senekis will submit a revised irrigation water allocation proposal to the cabinet on Wednesday. The plan reflects the current hydrological year and incorporates completed and upcoming water‑management projects. Senekis highlighted that water availability is crucial for the primary sector and for attracting younger farmers, noting the average age of professional farmers in Cyprus is 63. The proposal includes the completion of three additional desalination plants by 2031 and increased water delivery through the Southern Conveyor Project for potato and tree cultivation. While the added supply will be significant, it will not create surplus water. Senekis said the allocation process is dynamic, with further adjustments possible later in the year if hydrological conditions or needs change.
