Plex Teams with Fandango to Sell Movie Tickets Inside Its App
WHY IT MATTERS
The partnership lets Plex monetize its user data, offers consumers a seamless way to buy tickets, and gives studios richer attribution on how streaming engagement drives theater attendance.
What happened
Plex, the media‑server platform known for letting users share their movie collections, has added a new revenue stream by partnering with Fandango. Beginning today, U. S. Plex users can see a ticket‑buying button on the pages of films currently playing in theaters.
Clicking the button takes them to Fandango’s site, where they can view showtimes and purchase tickets. The integration also feeds data back to studios and advertisers through Kochava, giving them a clearer picture of how streaming‑based marketing and audience engagement translate into box‑office sales. Fandango, which sells tickets for 31,000 U.
S. screens, will now tap Plex’s data on over 100 million monthly streaming decisions to better understand audience intent. Plex says the move expands its business beyond its core media‑server software and monetizes its content‑discovery capabilities.
