What happened
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will accuse Russia of an attempted sabotage at Leipzig airport, where multiple drones carrying explosives were discovered. The first drone was found beside a Ukrainian Antonov transport plane loaded with ammunition, the second collided with a DHL cargo aircraft, and a third was located ten days later.
Investigators recovered about 50 grams of explosives. Merz said those responsible would be held accountable and promised further details soon.
He will announce new sanctions against Moscow, combining direct German measures with EU sanctions being prepared in Brussels. Berlin is also preparing for a sharp Moscow response.
