Hong Kong Renames Poverty Commission to Emphasize Targeted Alleviation

What happened
The Hong Kong Government announced that the existing Commission on Poverty will be renamed the Commission on Targeted Poverty Alleviation. Chief Secretary Chan Kwok‑ki chaired the first meeting of the new commission, stressing the government’s commitment to building a comprehensive poverty‑alleviation system and providing a safety net through inclusive services such as housing, healthcare, education and welfare.
The commission will adjust its strategy to meet changing societal needs, review current measures, and introduce a new target group to broaden assistance.
It plans to launch a social welfare project‑matching platform this year, linking business resources with community welfare projects to institutionalise a tripartite collaboration model and deliver innovative, focused support to the most vulnerable.
