Cyprus President Announces €50,000 Grant for Keravnos Strovolou Centenary
WHY IT MATTERS
The grant recognizes Keravnos' significant contribution to Cypriot sport and society, and the government's continued support will help the club promote sporting education and contribute to Cypriot society.
What happened
Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides announced a €50,000 government grant for Keravnos Strovolou as the sports club marked its 100-year anniversary. Speaking at the centenary event, Christodoulides described the funding as a symbolic contribution in recognition of Keravnos' century-long contribution to Cypriot sport and society.
Founded in 1926, Keravnos began with football and athletics before developing into one of the country's leading basketball clubs. The president highlighted the club's importance in providing opportunities for young people and promoting sportsmanship and fair play.
He also paid tribute to long-serving club president Paris Papaellinas, who has been involved with Keravnos for over 50 years. The government will continue supporting the club, particularly its work with young people, through investment in academies and development programmes.
