What happened
On August 28, 2026, President Donald J. Trump signed an Executive Order establishing the United States Space Academy at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston. The order aims to strengthen the U.
S. space workforce and develop future leaders in engineering, science, and operations. NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman will chair a Presidential Commission on the Academy, with Deputy Administrator Matt Anderson as executive director.
The commission will include Vice Chairs Michael Kratsios and Kevin Hassett, and other White House and interagency representatives. The commission must submit a report to the President within 120 days, outlining governance, service obligations for graduates, location, and legislative requirements. The signing followed the presentation of the Artemis II crew with the Congressional Space Medal of Honor.
