Apple Unveils Siri Audio Intelligence Features with Built‑In Privacy Safeguards

At its iPhone Duo launch, Apple introduced four new Siri AI Audio Intelligence functions—Siri Recap, Live Rewind, Sound Recognition, and Music Recognition. To address privacy concerns, the company released a technical brief explaining how the raw audio data is processed. The audio is confined to dedicated hardware, never stored as a file, and remains inaccessible to the operating system, third‑party apps, or Apple itself. The processing occurs inside the Secure Exclave of the S11 chip, which also powers the upcoming Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4. By keeping the data isolated, Apple aims to enable ambient listening features while preserving user privacy. The move clarifies the company’s approach to balancing AI functionality with data protection, setting a precedent for future hardware‑based privacy controls.
