New Zealand Government Announces Reforms to Food Safety Requirements for Hospitality Sector

Regulation Minister David Seymour and Food Safety Minister Andrew Hoggard have announced the implementation of the Ministry for Regulation's Hospitality Sector Review. The review found that small hospitality businesses were struggling with red tape and compliance costs due to one-size-fits-all food safety regulations. The government has accepted seven recommendations to make food safety rules proportionate to the actual risk of an issue arising. Key changes include moving lower-risk businesses into lower-risk categories, creating a simpler Food Control Plan, and reducing record-keeping requirements. The government aims to make it simpler and more efficient for businesses to demonstrate compliance with standards tailored to their size and risk.
