Cyprus: Remains of Four Missing Persons Found in Excavations

The Committee on Missing Persons (CMP) has announced the discovery of remains belonging to four missing persons in three excavations at sites in Cyprus. The remains were found in the Ayios Georgios Spatharikou area, Kalo Chorio Kythreas, and Lapithos. The CMP is currently excavating eight sites, and the remains of 1,082 people have been identified so far, including 765 Greek Cypriots and 317 Turkish Cypriots. The CMP is seeking records of the Turkish army's medical service, which carried out collective burials in 1974. The Cypriot government is working to intensify efforts to determine the fate of the missing, including the creation of a permanent anthropological laboratory and an ossuary for the dignified storage of remains.
