Didi Chuxing Plans Autonomous Vehicle Tests in Hong Kong

Ride‑hailing giant Didi Chuxing announced it will apply to conduct autonomous vehicle trials in a Hong Kong urban area this year. The move follows a recent visit by Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan and a group of lawmakers to Didi’s Beijing headquarters. Didi’s application is part of a broader strategy to expand testing to additional new development areas if the initial trials prove successful. The Transport Department’s working group, which includes Gary Zhang Xinyu, is overseeing the promotion of autonomous vehicle initiatives. The trials will be conducted under Hong Kong’s regulatory framework for driverless technology.
