Hong Kong Opens Ride-hailing Licence Applications

The Hong Kong Transport Department has invited interested platform companies to apply for ride-hailing service licences. To be eligible, companies must be registered in Hong Kong, maintain a permanent establishment, and have an office in the city. They must also demonstrate their scale of operations, financial capability, and operational experience. This includes processing at least 100,000 daily orders in two cities with populations comparable to Hong Kong's, and possessing at least HK$50 million in company paid-up capital and HK$30 million each in bank deposits and credit facilities. Companies must submit a proposal detailing their service plans and undergo a review process. The application deadline is October 30.
