Rivian Unveils 2027 Refresh for R1 Line, Adding Captain's Chairs and New Trim Structure

Rivian announced a 2027 refresh for its flagship R1S SUV and R1T pickup that focuses on customer‑requested updates rather than sweeping changes. The most notable addition is a second‑row captain’s chair option, replacing the traditional middle bench. The chairs feature a discreet cupholder and are positioned to give easy access to the third row or to create a storage space for bulky gear such as skis or surfboards. The refresh also includes new powertrain options, a revised electronic architecture, and updated batteries—an evolution that builds on the 2024 overhaul of the R1 line.
