Ohtani Not Close to Optimal, Roberts Considers Day Off After 8-6 Loss

WHY IT MATTERS

Ohtani’s possible absence will test the Dodgers’ depth and could shift the lineup strategy for the upcoming series.

What happened

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Shohei Ohtani is "not close to optimal" after the pitcher went 0-for-4 with four strikeouts in the 8-6 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. Ohtani's performance, combined with his recent injuries, prompted Roberts to weigh a day off for the star. The decision could leave the Dodgers without their two-way star in the lineup for the next game, potentially affecting the team's offensive and pitching balance.
