Ohio State Buckeyes Lose Starting QB Julian Sayin to Indefinite Injury
WHY IT MATTERS
Sayin’s absence threatens Ohio State’s championship prospects and reshapes the team’s offensive strategy, affecting both the season’s outcome and the draft outlook for the Buckeyes’ roster.
What happened
Ohio State head coach Ryan Day announced that quarterback Julian Sayin will be out "indefinitely" after a shoulder injury sustained during the 19‑15 win over Indiana. Sayin, who had thrown for 1,772 yards, 17 touchdowns and only two interceptions this season, was hit by Indiana defender Mario Landino, forcing a fumble and a shoulder injury that left him in a sling.
Day said there is no recovery timeline and the team is preparing as if Sayin will miss the remainder of the regular season and the College Football Playoff. True‑freshman Luke Fahey, a three‑star recruit, will take over as starter.
Ohio State’s bye week before the Halloween matchup with No. 16 USC gives the coaching staff time to regroup and plan for the season’s next chapter.
