Cyprus Sets School Bus Fares, Offers Free Transport to Eligible Children
WHY IT MATTERS
This measure aims to facilitate daily travel for pupils and encourage the use of public transport, potentially reducing traffic congestion and promoting a more sustainable transportation system in Cyprus.
What happened
The Cypriot transport ministry has announced school bus fares of €5 per month or €30 for the whole school year. Children from large families and those receiving the guaranteed minimum income are eligible for free transport.
To board school buses, children must obtain a personalised Motion bus card, presenting a certificate of attendance or pupil identification card.
All school buses will operate free of charge until September 11, after which children without valid Motion bus cards will be denied entry.
