First Diplodocus Fossil Discovered Outside North America

A 150‑million‑year‑old Diplodocus fossil was uncovered in Spain, marking the first confirmed find of the genus outside North America. The 25‑meter‑long sauropod’s tail bones display the distinctive morphology that links it to the well‑known North American species. The specimen’s excellent preservation allowed paleontologists to match these features with confidence. The discovery challenges the prevailing view that Diplodocus was confined to the western continents and suggests that Late Jurassic dinosaurs could migrate between Europe and North America, likely via temporary land bridges.
