Seattle Startup Secures $20 Million Contract to Deliver AI‑Powered Unmanned Ground Vehicles to U.S. Marines

Defense‑tech company Overland AI announced it has won a roughly $20 million production contract with the U. S. Marine Corps for autonomous unmanned ground vehicles (AUGVs). The award, made through the Pentagon’s Accelerate the Procurement and Fielding of Innovative Technologies (APFIT) program via an Other Transaction Agreement, will see the first vehicles delivered in early 2027. The Marines plan to use the AUGVs for missions such as moving ammunition and supplies, thereby reducing risk to warfighters. The vehicles are designed to navigate off‑road terrain, operate beyond line of sight and in GPS‑denied environments, and execute missions fully autonomously. Overland AI’s system will support the Marine Air Defense Integrated System (MADIS) and, in future upgrades, add modular sensors and effectors to detect and counter unmanned aerial and rotary‑wing threats.
