New Zealand's SH1 Papakura to Drury Upgrade Reaches Milestone with Southbound Traffic Shift

Transport Minister Chris Bishop announced that southbound traffic on State Highway 1 between Papakura and Drury has been moved onto a new motorway alignment and bridge, marking a key milestone in the project. The new alignment is part of the second stage of the upgrade, which will eventually provide three lanes in each direction, six new bridges, and improved flood resilience. Work will continue with the dismantling of the old bridge in October and the construction of a second southbound bridge, while the northbound bridge is replaced. The project, slated for completion in 2030, aims to enhance safety, journey reliability, and support growth in South Auckland.
