Shopify Expands AI Agent Access to Its Catalog
WHY IT MATTERS
By opening its catalog to all AI agents, Shopify accelerates the adoption of autonomous shopping, potentially reshaping how consumers interact with online marketplaces and increasing sales efficiency for merchants.
What happened
Shopify has announced that shoppers can now configure any AI agent to browse and purchase from its catalog, giving agents access to more than a billion listings across both Shopify storefronts and external sites. The move follows a September partnership with Meta that enabled Meta’s Muse agent to shop on a user’s behalf.
With the new feature, users no longer need a dedicated integration; they can connect any compatible agent to the platform. Setting up the feature requires customers to link their chosen agent, after which the agent can search, select, and complete purchases on the shopper’s behalf.
This expansion broadens the reach of AI‑driven commerce within Shopify’s ecosystem.
