Shubman Gill Returns to Punjab Ranji Squad Ahead of Chhattisgarh Clash
WHY IT MATTERS
Gill’s comeback signals Punjab’s intent to strengthen their batting lineup in the Ranji Trophy, while his ICC accolade highlights his sustained international performance, potentially boosting team morale and competitiveness.
What happened
Shubman Gill has re‑joined Punjab’s squad for the 2026‑27 Ranji Trophy after missing the opening fixture against Assam. The former India opener will feature in the second‑round match against Chhattisgarh, which kicks off on 18 October.
Gill’s return comes on the heels of his latest ICC Men's Player of the Month award, his fifth such honour, underscoring his continued form at the international level.
Punjab’s selectors say the experienced batsman will add depth to the side’s top order as the team seeks to build momentum in the domestic competition.
