Hong Kong Unveils Five-Year Plan to Enhance Social Well-being
WHY IT MATTERS
The plan's focus on education and healthcare is expected to have a positive impact on Hong Kong's social well-being and economic development, ultimately benefiting its citizens and contributing to a more sustainable and harmonious society.
What happened
Hong Kong's Chief Executive John Lee has outlined the First Five-Year Plan, which aims to enhance social well-being and refine the social protection framework. The plan addresses demographic changes and pursues enhancements across various policy areas, including education, social development, and healthcare. In education, the plan promotes the integration of AI into learning, teaching, and assessment, and fosters a humanistic spirit of 'Technology for Good' among students.
Digital education will be strengthened, and efforts will be made to nurture a new generation of students with a global perspective. The plan also seeks to foster the development of young people, women, families, and a harmonious society.
In healthcare, the plan aims to improve governance and infrastructure, deepen reforms, and strengthen the disease prevention and control system. An 'integrated epidemic management system' will be built to consolidate frontline defence against communicable diseases.
