Spotify Removes 50 Million AI‑Generated ‘Slop’ Tracks From Recommendations
WHY IT MATTERS
Spotify’s cleanup improves user trust by reducing unwanted AI content in recommendations, while the new AI Persona badge offers clearer transparency about AI‑generated music.
What happened
Spotify announced that it has removed more than 50 million songs identified as AI‑generated slop or spam from its recommendation engine over the past year. The streaming giant said it has also tweaked its recommendation algorithm to give greater prominence to music produced by human artists.
According to Spotify, its editorial team applies the same standards to all content and does not program the system to include tracks flagged as slop or spam. The company reports a noticeable decline in user complaints about unwanted AI content appearing in recommendations.
While Spotify has not required labels on every AI track, it introduced an “AI Persona” badge to help users identify AI‑generated music.” ,
