What happened
A recent inter-agency rapid need assessment in Gharb Jabal Marrah Locality, Central Darfur State, Sudan, has revealed a dire humanitarian situation. The assessment found that approximately 235,566 people, concentrated in Nertiti town and its IDP camps, are in need of assistance.
Food assistance is the leading priority, with 65% of households facing severe food shortages or days without food in the past week. Services are contracting, with 39 health facilities in Central Darfur affected by the closure of donor-funded projects.
The assessment also highlighted the need for adapted delivery in Golol, where 69% of households felt unsafe most or all of the time. School non-attendance was high, with two-thirds of school-age girls and boys not attending due to school costs being the dominant barrier.
