Pat McAfee to Host Alternate Super Bowl LXI Broadcast on ESPN; Game Streaming on Disney+
WHY IT MATTERS
The move expands fan access to the Super Bowl through multiple platforms and highlights the growing trend of alternate, personality‑driven broadcasts in major sporting events.
What happened
Former NFL punter‑turned‑media personality Pat McAfee will lead an alternate broadcast of Super Bowl LXI for ESPN, following a similar format to his "Field Pass" college football telecasts. The alternate show is slated for February and will feature McAfee’s commentary and analysis, with additional appearances on select Monday Night Football games this season.
Two days earlier, Disney announced that Disney+ will stream ESPN’s and ABC’s main Super Bowl broadcast, marking the seventh consecutive year the championship is available on a streaming platform.
The game, scheduled for Valentine’s Day, will also see veteran announcers Joe Buck and Troy Aikman return to the booth.
