Delta's Unconventional Cabin: A Seat Certification Delay Turns into a Unique Travel Experience

Delta Air Lines has found an innovative solution to a certification delay, transforming seven Airbus A321neo aircraft into a unique travel experience. Instead of the intended Safran VUE lie-flat suites, these planes now feature 44 conventional domestic First Class recliners. This arrangement is more than double the standard 20 First Class seats on Delta's A321neo. The temporary configuration was created to avoid keeping the aircraft idle, and it has resulted in a distinct cabin that sets these planes apart from their peers. Passengers can now enjoy a more spacious and comfortable seating arrangement, albeit with a conventional recliner instead of a lie-flat suite.
