US Air Force Conducts 36-Hour Iran Strikes from Missouri Base
WHY IT MATTERS
The successful operation showcases the US Air Force's ability to conduct extended-range strikes from a domestic base, highlighting its military capabilities and strategic flexibility.
What happened
Four Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit bombers from Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri conducted a 36-hour mission against Iranian military sites. The bombers, each carrying around 60,000 pounds of smart bombs, targeted hardened targets as part of Operation Epic Fury.
This operation aimed to disable a network of ballistic missile batteries. The mission marked the second time in under a year that Whiteman's bombers had undertaken such a hazardous trek, following a similar raid in June 2025 under Operation Midnight Hammer.
The US Air Force flying wings successfully completed the mission, demonstrating their capabilities and flexibility in conducting long-range strikes.
