What happened
The United States Air Force announced that its most expensive bomber will be flown by pilots who receive the standard military pay structure. All Air Force pilots are officers and receive the same basic pay for their rank and years of service.
They also receive comparable bonuses and allowances, with the sole exception of the pilot Aviation Bonus, which is awarded based on community. This means that the bomber’s crew will not be compensated with any special pay beyond the standard aviation bonus.
The decision underscores the Air Force’s commitment to a uniform compensation framework for its pilots, even for the most advanced and expensive aircraft in its fleet.
