Cyprus Urges Chevron to Accelerate Aphrodite Gas Field Development

Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides met with Chevron’s Base Assets and Emerging Countries chairman Javier la Rosa to push the Aphrodite gas field from planning to implementation. The president called the project a strategic priority and highlighted progress already made. Government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis said the discussion confirmed a shared commitment to the approved development and production plan and outlined the technical and commercial steps needed before a final investment decision. Christodoulides urged a swift decision to start production, while both sides noted the field’s potential to feed Egypt’s infrastructure and strengthen regional energy cooperation. The meeting underscored Cyprus’s readiness to work closely with Chevron and partners to maintain momentum, positioning the Aphrodite project as a milestone for Cyprus and the eastern Mediterranean’s role in European energy security.
