Philippines Senate Finance Committee Urged to Allocate P1.756 Billion for EDSA Busway in 2027 Budget

Transportation Secretary Banoy Lopez asked the Senate finance committee to restore P1. 756 billion for the EDSA busway in the 2027 national budget. The Department of Budget and Management’s draft excludes the project, which serves about 63 million passengers each year. Lopez warned that the lack of funding would hinder the Department of Transportation’s plans to finish three stations this year and add three more in 2027, and to install elevators for senior citizens and persons with disabilities. Senate finance chair JV Ejercito expressed support for the request, and the Management Association of the Philippines also backed the call. The Move As One Coalition had earlier highlighted the omission of the busway and other public‑transport projects, noting that 94 % of Filipinos do not own cars and favor mass‑transit improvements. The proposal also left out several train projects and fuel subsidies.
